We are looking for a Director of Interactive – an experienced manager of interactive design and development teams who’s also adept at working with clients to establish a vision for experiences and nailing down the highly detailed technical specifications that make them possible.

In the Director of Interactive position, you’ll be a: 

  • Strategic manager, ensuring the best possible interactive work is being created for our clients and that the department is healthy.
  • Business builder, responsible for sizing up potential interactive projects in terms of technical requirements, budgets and timelines in order to respond to RFPs or close opportunities.
  • Lead collaborator, working with Account, Strategy and Creative leads in other disciplines (writing, motion design, etc.) to translate business requirements into strategic approaches for content that achieve business goals.
  • Project chief, Ensuring flawless production, scheduling, resourcing and technical implementation on interactive projects. That includes managing internal design and development teams as well as external partners. It also includes continually updating project managers on the status of budget and schedule estimates versus actuals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead interactive innovation in design, technology, strategy and processes through all phases of a project from discovery to deployment.
  • Grow and lead the team that’s responsible for technology strategy and implementation, IA and UI for large-scale websites, micro sites, sales tools, mobile applications and more.
  • Collaborate closely with the other functional disciplines and external partners to ensure that technology-related project deliverables are of the highest quality and that scope is managed according to original estimates.
  • Partner with Creative Directors, Art Directors and Strategic Directors in order to keep the focus of interactive projects on the content.
  • Conduct technical requirements gathering, technical analysis and identification of key success metrics.
  • Ensure that correct and complete technology processes and QA planning/testing, issues management, load/performance testing deployment planning, etc. is done on each interactive project.
  • Provide accurate work estimates and make resource requests and allocations based on project requirements and budgeted scope.
  • Manage and engage in regular check-ins, follow-up with account and project managers, and provide guidance and information related to the project in a timely fashion;
  • Conduct regular meetings with combined project teams (management and design/development) to review project risks, issues and develop mitigation and contingency plans where required.
  • Hire, train and lead all interactive design and technical staff.
  • Assist in training account and project management staff in the intricacies of interactive projects.
  • Review contract and vendor documentation and craft proposal and support-level agreements.
  • Define and document best practices and contribute to company knowledge-sharing effort.
  • Participate in new business opportunities as required, developing proposals and scopes of work.
  • Keep finger on the pulse of latest technologies and third-party providers and share opportunities with intra-agency groups (Creative, Account, Strategy)
  • Ensure that all interactive projects are set up to be measured and evaluated appropriately — requiring working knowledge of different digital analytics packages.

Requirements:

  • Experience leading multi-disciplinary interactive teams (interactive designers, developers, QA, etc.) for at least 5+ years.
  • Experience working within an agency environment.
  • Experience with agile methodology.
  • Up-to-date understanding of content marketing principles and digital market trends.
