RTI Reconnector Facebook Application
The Reconnector application provides immediate value while working toward a greater goal. It provides current and former military the opportunity to reconnect with colleagues via Facebook, while helping RTI build a base of self-selected subjects to poll in future research endeavors.
RTI often contracts with the Department of the Defense to research the impact service in the armed forces has on the lives of military personnel and their families. The first stage of that type of research is building a respondent list — often a costly endeavor in terms of time and money. So RTI partnered with Centerline to explore whether social media was a way to build those lists more efficiently.
Social mediums, though, are user-centric rather than brand-centric. So we started by thinking: What value can be paid forward to service men and women that will entice them to sign up for those potential studies?
The result of our thinking was the RTI Reconnector Facebook application — a tool that allows users to search for and interact with people they may have lost contact with over time. The application captures each user’s military background via a short questionnaire. That data becomes the virtual ties that bind — allowing active duty, veterans and spouses across all military branches to find people they served with by name, base or dates of service.
By providing value — a way to reconnect and network — RTI gains significant value as well via the collection of data that will help build a cohesive list of military personnel to contact for any future studies needed by the Department of Defense.
